Job description

TRUSTEES, EASTBOURNE

Would you like us to use your talents and experience to make a real difference as a Trustee of St Wilfrid’s?

St Wilfrid’s Hospice is an amazing charity providing palliative and end of life care to the people of Eastbourne and surrounding parts of East Sussex. With a multidisciplinary staff team of 200 and over 600 volunteers, we provide support for the physical, psycho social and spiritual needs of more than 2,000 patients and families each year, from our state-of-the-art hospice building and in the community. Our vision is a community where people talk openly about dying, live well until the end of their life and where no one dies alone, afraid or in pain. We are rated ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission.

We have ambitious plans to continue expanding the care and support we provide, bringing our services ‘closer to you’. We are now looking to add to our collegiate Board of Trustees with people who can contribute effectively at board level. We seek people with experience or an understanding of governance in charities, who are forward-thinking and can offer strategic perspective, are fair- minded and who accept the principle of collective decision-making and accountability. You must also be committed to the values of the hospice (Compassionate, Professional, Progressive and Respectful) and be available to attend evening board/committee meetings plus an annual away day.

At the present time, we are looking specifically for two people with a background and experience in these areas:

- Fundraising (current or recent experience of professional fundraising)
- Accountancy (we are looking for someone with an accounting qualification).

We will offer full induction training for those selected. These roles are not remunerated but we will pay travel and related expenses.

Other organisations may call this role Board Member, Charity Trustee, Director, Charity Director, or Elected Trustee.

Applications will close on Monday 22nd June 2020, with interviews scheduled to be held some time in July 2020. Depending on restrictions at that time, this will be done in person or via video conference.
