Job description

ART AGAINST KNIVES are looking for passionate Trustees to join our board, making it possible for young people to create their own hopeful futures, free from violence, abuse and harm.

ABOUT US
For the past 15 years, Art Against Knives has been working to address the root cause of violence in partnership with young people and their communities. Together we've designed safe, creative spaces that make it possible for them to build their own hopeful futures. In these spaces our team of creative, highly skilled professionals bring creative skills training, mentoring and specialist support to them, at a pace and in a space that works for them.

TRUSTEES AT AAK
Trustees are essentially the "guardians of purpose," ensuring our mission is fulfilled and our resources are used responsibly. As a Trustee at Art Against Knives you will play a crucial role in ensuring we operate ethically and effectively for the public benefit.

Our board is currently composed of six Trustees who provide essential strategic oversight to the Charity. We have organised ourselves into four working groups (subcommittees), ensuring the board remains connected to the team, young people and the communities that we support. Each subcommittee is made up of approximately four representatives, including two trustees and two members of our leadership team.

As the terms of our current board members come to a close over the course of the next 12 months, we are excited to be looking to recruit up to 5 new Trustees to build and grow the skills and capacity of our board. Our current strategy ends in 2026, so this is a unique opportunity to join us at a time when we will be co-designing our future plans.

ROLES
We are looking for people to take on the standard role of a Trustee, and in addition we're also looking to appoint the following:

CHAIR /CO-CHAIR
The chair is responsible for supporting and supervising the CEO and acting as a channel of communication between board and staff. You will lead on the development of the board, chairing meetings and making sure that decisions and responsibilities are carried out. You will also take urgent action between board meetings when it isn't possible or practical to hold a meeting and support some operational elements e.g. signing grant paperwork, approving payments, meeting with funders, liaising with external consultants. The role of a chair is a significant responsibility so we are interested in creating either a co-chair or vice-chair model to share this. We're open to discussing and co-designing this with candidates.

SUBCOMMITTEE LEADS
We are looking for people to lead two of our subcommittees, specifically our 'People' and 'Support' Subcommittees
