The Retreat, York
An independent, charitable mental health provider with a long Quaker history
About The Retreat
The Retreat has a long history of delivering high quality, sustainable, renowned mental health and wellbeing services, alongside Neurodevelopmental services, helping people to live well with themselves so that we all live better together. We have a reputation for excellence and over 200 years of mental health experience. Our services are run by a team of highly experienced and professionally accredited staff who seek to reflect the tolerance, humanity and values of our Quaker roots. We provide tailored care which is personalised and effective, and we’ve harnessed emerging technology to provide online consultations.
As an independent charity, we provide care to people who refer themselves and those who are referred to us by GPs and other professionals. We can often help when others can’t, enabling people to get their lives back on track.
Our high quality services are accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatry’s Quality Scheme for Psychological Therapies Services and we are CQC registered.
Our organisation has its roots in York’s Quaker community and we do our best to sustain our Quaker history and heritage. We work within an ethos of care, collaboration and community.
Our work is carried out to reflect our values of hope, equality and community, honesty and integrity, courage, peace, and care for our environment.
The Trustee Roles
We’re looking for new Trustees to join our experienced and committed Board to provide the strategic direction to take this work forward to assure the sustainability of The Retreat, protecting our legacy and reputation as innovators in mental health care.
We recognise that our Board of Trustees lacks variation in the backgrounds and life experiences of our Trustees. We are working to change this. The Retreat is committed to equality of opportunity and celebrating diversity and we are keen to have as diverse and inclusive a Board as possible, to reflect the people we support. We warmly welcome applications from all suitably qualified people who share our values.
At the current time we are particularly seeking Trustees with experience of mental health service provision either from a clinical or management perspective.
For an informal discussion about The Retreat and the trustee role please email David Robson, Clerk to the Trustee Board.
