Job description

Cruse Bereavement Support is here to make sure that everyone grieving gets the support they need, when and how they need it. Every year we help thousands of people at one of the most painful times of their lives by providing support, advice and information.

The role

We are looking for someone who is either working in a senior role in the civil service, in a public policy role, in a charity, or in a think tank or agency to join our Board of Trustees. Someone who wants to make a real difference to bereaved people.  Our Board of Trustees has overall responsibility and accountability for everything the charity does. They set our strategy, shape the culture of Cruse and monitor our performance. We have a skilled and diverse Board and are now recruiting an additional Trustee with experience in public policy and influencing.

This is a relatively underdeveloped area for Cruse. But we are clear that alongside our service provision we need to be influencing government and others to ensure bereaved people are treated with more understanding and kindness. This spans a range of areas including:

  • welfare benefits
  • funeral poverty
  • how bereaved customers are treated
  • how bereavement services are funded and commissioned..
