Job description

We have opportunities for a public affairs and communications specialist to join our board of trustees at this exciting stage in our development.

  • Voluntary role (reasonable expenses reimbursed)
  • Time commitment of 12 days a year
  • Meetings take place in Aylesbury, Bucks (remote participation possible via Skype)

Passionate, committed and talented trustees are essential to a successful charity and we are recruiting for a total of three new trustees to join us. We are advertising separately for a new chair of our finance committee to hold the title of treasurer - and we have also identified the need for:

  • A public affairs and communications specialist to help us be a voice for people affected by lymphoma. Advising on strategies to make the best use of limited resources in the fields of influencing decisions and policy at national level, this role will have experience of lobbying, campaigns, advocacy or communications.

The board of trustees is responsible for the effective governance and overall strategic direction of the charity, working in the best interests of the charity to help us to carry out our charitable purpose. 

In this role you will help us effectively manage resources; plan for the long-term as well as the short-term and stay focused on the needs of people affected by lymphoma. Being a trustee is an excellent way to develop your professional skills, improve your CV and gain real experience in strategic planning. It can be a fascinating and rewarding experience, making a valuable contribution to the charity sector.

Lymphoma Action is the UK’s only charity dedicated to lymphoma, the UK’s fifth most common cancer; we have been providing expert information and wide-ranging support for over 30 years. Based in Aylesbury, we employ 31 staff and 200 volunteers, and have an annual income of £1.4m.
