Would you like to make a difference to people’s lives across West and South Yorkshire while gaining Board experience in a multi-award-winning mental health charity with a strong focus on diversity and inclusion?
Following the retirement of some of our long-serving Board members, Touchstone is looking for new volunteer Trustees to transform lives and inspire communities across the areas we work in. Trustees are responsible for the governance of the charity and are expected to prepare for and attend bi-monthly Board Meetings, one of 3 key sub-committees, as well as attending one full- and one half-day Board ‘away day’ during the year, resulting in a time commitment of around 1 day per month on average. As well as an extensive induction (which will initially be carried out online), Trustees are invited to take advantage of online training opportunities and to attend Touchstone ‘master classes’ and social events. Board meetings are currently online but are normally held in various locations in Leeds.
A dynamic and innovative charity, growing in both size and reputation, Touchstone currently holds the Investors in People Platinum award, is ranked 9th in the Sunday Times Best Not-for-Profit Organisations to Work for 2020, achieved three-star accreditation in the annual Sunday Times Best Companies survey 2 years running, is ranked 44th out of Stonewall’s Top 100 Employers, is ranked 13th in the Top 50 Most Inclusive Employers list 2020 and has won the Sunday Times Best 100 Companies “Discovering Potential” and “Giving Something Back” awards (for the fourth and second consecutive years respectively).
Touchstone is an inclusive employer and organisation with 43% of staff and a third of current Trustees identifying as Black African/Caribbean or South East Asian. 21% of Touchstone staff identify as LGB as do 22% of Trustees. Touchstone welcomes all difference and we are excited at the prospect of expanding our diversity even more.
Although not essential, we would be particularly keen to hear from candidates with one or more of the following:
- lived experience of mental health issues, addiction and recovery or the criminal justice system
- IT and systems expertise
- financial skills including the ability to interpret balance sheets and P&L accounts
- PR and communications
- strategic business planning experience
- awareness of inclusion, equality and diversity
- NHS, Local Government and/or charity experience
The roles are not remunerated, although reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. Successful candidates will be required to undergo a DBS check.
