Job description

Job description

The Daphne Jackson Trust is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to realising the potential of returners to research following a career break taken for family, caring or health reasons. Our aims are to enable talented individuals to return to research after a career break; to maintain a talented research workforce by offering flexible and part time Fellowships; to support equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace; and to develop partnerships with new stakeholders to extend our reach.

We are looking to expand the skills across our Board of Trustees by recruiting four new members who share our passion and can apply their skills to help us reach our vision. We are keen to hear from under-represented groups, including people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, people living with disabilities, individuals who have not previously held Trustee positions and from younger people who may not have had previous Board experience but have the required personal attributes, skills and enthusiasm for the role.

Those with skills in legal, communications and PR (including digital and social media) and finance, as well as those with a background in the arts, humanities and social sciences would be particularly welcome as these are currently under-represented on the Board.

The Board

The Board meets twice a year (currently virtually, but we hope to resume in-person meetings soon - these are normally held in Central London). The Board is supported by sub-committees and groups that have their own additional time commitments.

We ask all Trustees to commit to attending meetings where possible, to join suitable sub-committees and groups and to assist the Chief Executive and staff between meetings as necessary.

In return, as a Daphne Jackson Trust Trustee, you will be highly valued and play a critical role with us. We provide a full induction, exciting opportunities to engage with our work, a chance to utilise your skills in a diverse way and any ongoing support and assistance as appropriate to help you fulfil the role.

The closing date for applications is: Sunday 30th May 2021.

Interviews are likely to be held in June 2021 with dates to be confirmed.
