Trustee vacancy – Animal Free Research UK (previously Dr Hadwen Trust)
Unremunerated (expenses paid) Meetings are held in Hitchin, Hertfordshire
The Animal Free Research UK (AFR UK) is the UK’s leading non-animal medical research charity that funds and promotes the development of techniques and procedures to replace the use of animals in biomedical research and testing.
Animal Free Research UK funds an extensive portfolio of high calibre scientific research projects within the UK that focus on replacing the use of animals used in medical research. Income to fund AFR UK research is generated almost exclusively by donations and legacies. The Board is looking for new trustees who are aligned to the ethos of the AFR UK, and would enjoy the opportunity to contribute their expertise to provide the robust and dynamic governance that is needed to ensure the AFR UK remains on mission and achieves its ambitions to grow the charity
In this role, and along with the Board of Trustees and the CEO and senior management team, you will help inspire, set and maintain the charity’s vision, mission and values, as well as developing the strategy, and ensuring compliance and accountability for finances, legal and governmental obligations. Previous experience in a trustee role is not essential, as a full induction will be provided.
Taking on the role of a trustee of the AFR UK is a significant undertaking. The Board meets at least 4 times per year on Saturdays in March, June, August and December and an appropriate time commitment will be required over the course of the year for the preparative work required in between meetings.
We are particularly interested to hear from individuals with financial*, human resources, veterinary or scientific research backgrounds.
* Specifically we are seeking an Honorary Treasurer to support the Board and CEO/Finance in successful delivery of the Charity’s financial responsibilities and objectives . This includes provision of advice, guidance, challenge and reassurance on all aspects of the Charity’s financial activities and ensuring that the Charity’s strategic and operational plans are underpinned by robust and fit for purpose financial management.
Three years, renewable for a further 3 years if a specific board role (e.g. Chair) is adopted.
