Job description

Join Reading Students’ Union as a Finance Trustee

About the Students’ Union

Reading Students' Union (Reading SU) is a vibrant, student-led charity dedicated to enhancing the lives of over 22,000 University students. Our mission is to provide a platform for good, creating a community where all voices are equal, and everyone is free and safe to express themselves, enjoy good times with friends and feel supported on their path through University, leading to a brighter future for all.

We pride ourselves on being more than just a Students' Union. We are the heart of a thriving student community; our activities and initiatives are all student-inspired. Our commitment is to promote the interests and welfare of our students, represent their needs, and provide avenues for personal development through social, cultural, sporting, and recreational activities.

About the role

Trustees are responsible for providing good governance for our students’ union. Reading Students’ Union is a charity and a company limited by guarantee. Our Union also has an 80 place nursery which operates as a separate wholly owned trading subsidiary. In addition to ensuring that the SU complies with charity and company law and is generally engaged in good practice, trustees are collectively responsible for:

  • Safeguarding and promoting the mission, vision and values of Reading SU
  • Determining the strategy and structure of Reading SU
  • Ensuring that the Students’ Union operates in an effective, responsible and accountable manner
  • Ensuring the effective functioning of the trustees

Reading SU are seeking to build a trustee board, and organisation which represents the community they serve and therefore welcome applications from all suitably qualified and experienced members of the community. As such, they especially encourage applications from underrepresented backgrounds including, but not limited to, individuals who are disabled, identify as female, LGBTQIA+ or from Black, Asian or minority ethnic backgrounds.
