Job description

This is a rare opportunity for the right candidate to make a significant and meaningful contribution to ending the ignorance, injustice and neglect experienced by children and adults with myalgic encephalomyelitis (M.E.).

This serious, neurological condition affects at least 250,000 people in the UK – more than MS and Parkinson’s combined – and most face considerable challenges in accessing appropriate care and support.

Action for M.E. provides an information and support service, including expert welfare benefits advice, and enables peer-support to reduce isolation. We engage with policy-makers at local, national and international level to address the changes so urgently needed, and work collaboratively to invest in and campaign for accelerated biomedical research. Current work includes preparing to launch a pilot advocacy service the Midlands and South West, and developing our 2019 M.E. Awareness Month campaign.

Our creative, committed team are looking for a talented Operations Director/Deputy Chief Executive to manage Action for M.E.'s day-to-day operations, keeping children and adults with M.E. at the heart of everything we do.

The successful candidate will demonstrate substantial professional experience of leadership, strategic planning, and directing operations/projects. An understanding of M.E. and its impact is essential, as is an expert grasp of effective, outcome-focused management, quality assurance and income generation in the voluntary sector.

A keen ability to think strategically and actively seek innovative approaches to solving problems and delivering results will help you get the most from our experienced and enthusiastic staff and volunteers, supported by a dedicated Board of Trustees.

If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
