The Primary Care Respiratory Society (PCRS) is a multidisciplinary, UK-wide professional society, passionate about developing a holistic, high value patient-centred and integrated approach to caring for people with respiratory conditions.
We are seeking a dynamic Chief Executive, who, by working closely with our Executive Chair, will help us deliver our strategic direction and shape our future. The Chief Executive is accountable to the PCRS Trustees.
Our work includes campaigning to influence policy and set standards in respiratory medicine, describing how to deliver value-based healthcare that supports service development and redesign, and educating health professionals working in primary and community settings to deliver and influence out-of-hospital respiratory care. The PCRS executive, elected from our membership, is the driving force of the organisation, and brings together enthusiastic clinical experts from across primary, community and integrated care settings.
We are a small but ambitious organisation which has successfully evolved over 30 years and which has a very significant influence nationally. We run our own programmes and events, including the very successful annual PCRS Respiratory Conference, as well as working with partners to reach out to wider audiences and to publish our well-respected international scientific journal. As such, we need a Chief Executive who can both manage operational detail and provide strategic direction. Securing funding from our pharmaceutical and other healthcare company sponsors is a key aspect of the role. Knowledge of the NHS, a facilitative leadership style, and understanding of how to get the best from busy professionals are essential pre-requisites for success in the role.
We operate as a virtual organisation and the role is home- based. Some travel, primarily to London and the home counties is required for face to face meetings. Working hours are flexible, though some evening work is required for telephone and video conferences with committees /working groups. The post is available as a full time position on an initial one year contract with a salary in the range of £80 to £90K. Applications are also welcome from those wishing to work only part time (minimum 3.5 days per week, salary pro rata) or from job share candidates.
