Job description

Do you have a passion for improving the mental health of young people and commitment to empowering young people to be part of the change they want to see? YoungMinds is the UK’s leading charity fighting for children and young people's mental health. We are seeking a Chair with a heartfelt affinity for our cause, who can bring strong leadership skills and governance experience to lead the Board as we grow our impact towards our mission for all young people to get the mental health support they need, when they need it.

What will you be doing?

The Chair has overall responsibility for the effectiveness of the trustees working together in their governance responsibilities and with the Senior Leadership Team. This includes working closely with our Chief Executive, Emma Thomas, to ensure effective leadership of the charity delivering to our You Matter Strategy and the productive and collaborative working with trustees in undertaking their duties and responsibilities to ensure we are always working in the best interests of young people.

The pandemic has meant that we have never been needed more and must ensure that young people are able to get the support they need and deserve.  We have a clear purpose and strategy to continue to grow significantly in our reach and impact, scaling this further into the future.  As a result, we are looking to build our Board with new skills and experience to support this, looking to appoint 4 further trustees to complement the current Board of 8 trustees. We are recruiting for a permanent Chair, a Lead Safeguarding trustee and 2 further trustees. For more information about these vacancies please visit our website.

This is an exciting but critical time, and we are seeking a Chair who can bring a growth-mindset approach to how governance works in an ambitious and growing charity and able to commit an anticipated 15 to 24 days a year to support this.

The position is unpaid yet reasonable expenses such as travel, overnight accommodation and childcare for meetings are provided.
