Job description

Role Summary

This role has over-arching responsibility for the governance of the Trust and oversight of the Board of Trustees and Executive Team. The current Board includes, the Chair, Deputy Chair, and eight other Trustees. The role involves:

  • Leading the Board of Trustees ensuring that its supported to fulfil its responsibilitiesfor the governance of the organisation and that the charity acts in accordance with itsgoverning document, charity regulators’ guidance and to the benefit of its charitableobjectives.
  • Guiding the strategic direction of the Trust
  • Complies with Equality legislation and good practice
  • Managing and mitigating against any risks
  • Holding the Board and CEO to account for the effective use of charitable resourcestowards halting extinctions and achieving sustainable populations of Bumblebees.
  • Supporting the CEO, staff and volunteers, in their work and provide visible leadershipwithin the charity.


Main Responsibilities

  • Manage and provide inspiring leadership to the Board of Trustees, CEO and membership
  • Develop a diverse and collaborative Board of Trustees
  • Ensure that trustees have the required skills, are aware of and supported to fulfil theirgovernance responsibilities and use their expertise to deliver the best outcomes for theTrust
  • Chair and facilitate Board meetings to ensure that business is conducted effectively andefficiently
  • Liaising effectively and providing advice and counsel to the CEO, delegating responsibilityfor running the Trust as appropriate:oMaintain an overview of operations
    • Review and appraise the performance of the CEO
    • Build relationships and rapport between Board, staff and volunteers


  • Leading disciplinary and appointment committees, where appropriate and in line with thecharity’s agreed policies and procedures.
  • Support the Trust to develop and sustain a positive and productive relationship withpartners and stakeholders
  • Be an active champion of the charity, bringing to bear personal networks, representing theTrust at events, meetings and function and supporting fundraising activity
  • Serve on governance committees and working groups where appropriate and as specifiedin the relevant Terms of Reference
