Job description

We are urgently seeking dedicated and passionate people to join the Age UK Staffordshire Board of Trustees.

Our trustees are essential to our success as a charity. As a trustee, you will set our direction and hold staff to account, making sure we are always doing the best we possibly can for older people in the County of Staffordshire.

Why become an Age UK Staffordshire trustee?

As an Age UK Staffordshire trustee, you will help guide a charity that is focused on helping the older people in Staffordshire that need it most, especially with the consequences of a pandemic.

You will support our staff to deliver the best possible service through our 2 retail shops, day care services, help at home, lunch clubs, social prescribers, care navigators, information & advice, independent living coordinators, ageing well & veterans project, across our nine sites - each designed to help older people with issues like loneliness, financial worries, living independently, prevention, & emotional wellbeing.

You will join a vibrant trustee team with a vast amount of professional and personal experience in fields like, the charity sector, business, local government, healthcare, legal, finance and education.

You will be warmly welcomed, supported to develop your skills, and participate fully in the governance of our charity and all that entails.

This is a voluntary role, but all travel costs and expenses will be covered.

Who are we looking for?

No matter your professional experience, we would love to hear from you. There is no trustee experience required, we just need you to be passionate, fair, and genuinely care about helping older people in your local community.

It would be a bonus if you:

  • Qualify as a ‘young trustee’ (aged 18-35)
  • Have experience working in governance.
  • Have experience working or volunteering with older people.
  • Have professional experience in legal, finance, health, local government, social care, business development & fundraising.

What is the time commitment?

You would be expected to attend 12 trustee meetings a year – this includes 10 board meetings and two away days to discuss strategic planning.
